Veneers are thin custom-made shells that cover the front surface of your teeth to improve appearance. They are made of tooth-colored materials and can be used to improve the color, shape, or size of your tooth.
There are two types of veneers most commonly used, including:
Porcelain veneers are durable and stain-resistant. They also create a more natural-looking tooth because of the properties of the material. Porcelain veneers are custom-made in a laboratory using a mold of your tooth or teeth.
Composite resin veneers aren’t made in a lab. The composite resin is directly applied to your teeth. Then, they are molded and shaped to get the desired results. Composite resin veneers tend to have a shorter lifespan than porcelain veneers but are less expensive.
Dr. Shiri uses porcelain veneers.
Dr. Shiri determines if you’re a good candidate for veneers during a consultation. You may want to consider veneers if:
During your consultation, he conducts an oral exam, reviews your cosmetic goals, and determines if veneers are the best fit for you.
Placement of your veneers typically requires two to three visits to the office. After your consultation, Dr. Shiri begins by taking a preliminary impression and photos to study the shape and form of the final veneers.
At your second visit, Dr. Shiri completes three important steps. First, he prepares your teeth to be fitted with a veneer, which involves shaping the tooth, so the veneer can bond on top.
Secondly, an impression is taken of your tooth, which is sent to a laboratory to prepare your veneer. Finally, Dr. Shiri places a temporary veneer to protect your tooth while the permanent veneer is created.
At your third visit, Dr. Shiri removes your temporary veneer. He then checks to see if your permanent veneer created by the laboratory fits well. Once you and Dr. Shiri are satisfied, your veneer is bonded to your tooth.
